The safety and well-being of our team members is our most important responsibility. We strive to ensure that everyone understands how to work safely and develop and maintain processes designed to fail safely. We also recognize that well-being extends beyond physical safety.

Eliminating all serious injuries and achieving an injury-free workplace requires continuous effort that will never be finished.

People Before Paper

Our mills run 24/7 in complex industrial environments, where physical hazards, fatigue and work-life pressures can affect employees and contractors alike. Our commitment to safety is simple: people before paper, always.

Empowering voices is central to our safety culture. Everyone has the right to speak up, ask questions and stop work when conditions are unclear or concerns arise.

Physical and mental well-being are also an intentional focus. Shift work, planned maintenance outages and personal stressors can affect focus, fatigue and overall health. To address this, we promote holistic well-being through initiatives and programs that support mental health, sleep, stress management and work-life balance, including access to employee assistance programs and intentional well-being resources.

These efforts help strengthen our safety culture and support our goals to eliminate all serious injuries and achieve an injury-free workplace by 2030.

Safety Leadership

We utilize targeted safety projects that focus on hazard recognition and risk elimination. These projects not only identify and correct critical safety tasks and conditions, they also develop the skills and competencies of safety leaders by putting the skills learned from safety training into practice.

We continue to require safety leadership training for employees and contractors to equip them with the knowledge and skills to recognize and mitigate risks effectively. In 2025, our employees completed nearly 1,000 safety projects with half of them focused on hand safety.

We also provide platforms for our employees to share and discuss personal stories and experiences related to safety, fostering a deeper understanding of how safety impacts them and promoting our commitment to a strong safety culture. These discussions focus on knowledge sharing across facilities, highlighting areas for improvement, best practices and successes to learn from one another.

"Through safe work observations, safety leadership training and beyond, we are continuously improving our approach to safety and well-being with buy-in and ownership from our team members. We collaborate with each other to find solutions.”
