MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sylvamo’s 2025 Sustainability Performance Review is now available, sharing the company’s progress toward producing paper in the most responsible and sustainable ways while outlining the priorities that will guide its next phase of sustainability work.
This year’s report centers on a simple question: What matters most?
To answer it, Sylvamo is completing its first double materiality assessment (DMA), a process that helps the company understand which sustainability topics matter most to its business, stakeholders and long-term success. Input was gathered from internal and external stakeholder groups across Sylvamo’s three operating regions, helping shape six shared priorities:
Resilient and Responsible Operations
Circular Products and Responsible Sourcing
Healthy Forests, Strengthening Ecosystems
Safety and Workforce Well-being
People Development and Strong Communities
Business Ethics and Integrity
These priorities provide a common understanding between Sylvamo and its stakeholders about where focus and action matter most.
“Our 2025 Sustainability Performance Review reflects our commitment to continuous improvement so that we protect and enhance forests, uplift communities and improve our planet’s future,” said John Sims, chief executive officer.
The report also highlights meaningful progress, including:
85% of mill energy generated from renewable, carbon-neutral biomass residuals
100% of fiber sourced globally complying with FSC certification standards
67,000+ acres of forestland conserved, enhanced or restored
990+ global safety projects completed
$5.2 million invested with strategic partners to support people and the planet
“Completing this assessment is an important step for Sylvamo because it strengthens how we align sustainability with our strategy, performance and accountability,” said James McDonald, chief sustainability officer.
Sylvamo will use the assessment insights to help guide decisions moving forward, including reassessing its 2030 goals and refining its sustainability strategy over the next 12 to 18 months, ensuring the company remains focused on what matters most and delivers the results stakeholders expect.
